Writing support & insider tips
Support & insights.
In my role as Royal Literary Fund Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, I provide tailored, one-to-one sessions for students and academics looking to improve their writing skills. We work together to brainstorm ideas and to find the key to a well-structured, streamlined argument - for everything from essays and reports to theses, dissertations, book chapters and posters. I offer help with planning and structure, tips for working to a word limit, advice on communicating clearly, and help with editing, grammar and punctuation. https://www.rlf.org.uk/
Academic writing support
Tailored feedback
Drawing on my experience as a language learner, translator and editor, I help others to clean up their prose and deliver top-notch written communications in English. I analyse and annotate manuscripts and essays to identify weak spots in terms of grammar and style, providing tailored support, feedback and useful tips based on the individual’s needs. I assist non-native English speakers, explaining and simplifying grammatical concepts if necessary. I also offer a fresh perspective and sensitive feedback for writers and fellow translators.
I keep track of the latest developments in the foreign book markets, searching for undiscovered gems that deserve a wider readership in the rest of the world. When I find a book in German or Spanish that I love, I recommend it to publishers and colleagues in my network, determined to find a new home for great literature in translation. Attending international book fairs and seminars allows me to provide invaluable insider insights into what readers are buying and loving at home and abroad. I can also produce short samples to provide a taste of the prose in English translation. All enquiries welcome!
