Combining my experience as a reader and a translator, I am a sensitive ‘first reader’ who can help a translation reach its full potential.
In addition to fluency in Spanish and German, I have a grounding in Portuguese, Italian and Catalan. This working knowledge of several languages allows me to cross-check translations against the original where necessary, giving me insights into the author’s intentions and the translator’s choices.
I think deeply about how a text is working for the reader. Is the meaning conveyed clearly and effectively? Could the structure be tweaked for additional impact? Is there anything that could be refined or enhanced?
Collaboratively, we can find ways to retain idiosyncratic elements of the original and convey the author’s unique style - in a translation that leaves a lasting impression.
